We know that young dancers are often prone to injury, so how do we keep them involved in our classes and help them to make the most of this time?
As dance teachers we often assume more than just a traditional teaching role, looking after the pastoral care and wellbeing of our students. We work hard to create an environment in which to flourish and that encourages a constructive and informed approach to dance injuries that often inevitably occur in dancing. So, how do we keep these dancers involved in their classes and help them to make the most of this time? While injuries can be frightening and frustrating, they also provide opportunities for students andteachers to learn about their bodies and develop some tools for self-care which foster responsibility and agency and aid recovery and often our dancers come back stronger and more resilient than before.
In this hands-on session, we will explore a range of strategies which will help you include your students, to help them maintain a positive approach to learning whilst still training the non-injured parts of their bodies. Together we will build the confidence to problem-solve inclusion strategies that you can immediately take back to your classrooms and put into practice.
